Former England captain Andrew Strauss has been described as”an outstanding individual” after getting a knighthood in ex-Prime Minister Theresa May’s resignation honours list.
42, strauss, led England to the number one Exam ranking, two Ashes wins, in addition to, in their own 50 Tests.
Coach Andy Flower, accountable during Strauss’ time as captain, also paid tribute.
“I cannot think of a man more deserving of this honor,” Flower said.
“As a player he was tough and resilient, as a captain he balanced a firm hand and moral compass using a compassion and empathy that supposed he was loved and respected in the dressing area by his players and the staff”
Geoffrey Boycott, Still another former England captain , also got a knighthood.
Strauss scored 7,037 runs in an average of 40.91 at 100 England Tests and combined the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) as England’s director of cricket following his retirement from all forms of cricket in 2012.
He proceeded to establish a foundation in her name, and abandoned the role annually to encourage his wife Ruth, who was treated for terminal cancer
ECB chief executive Tom Harrison added:”Andrew was encouraged to shape the future strategy of these men’s international teams – in part to enable an environment which would see England as dwell contenders for the World Cup in 2019, a goal they thrillingly delivered just a couple of short months ago.
“It was using the identical class and courage that he along with his family set up the Ruth Strauss Foundation to raise money and consciousness merely a couple of months after dropping Ruth to a rare form of cancer.
“Aside from his achievements on and off the pitch,” Andrew is widely regarded as an exceptional person within our game and this excellent accolade will be renowned around the cricketing world.”
